What do you think of the current state of the Dallas Scene?
It is on a low point of the roller coaster it has gone through in the past several years. However, it's just how many predicted it would be with few large parties and many club parties. In Dallas and the rest of Texas nothing was done to actively solve the problems we have had: drug use and irresponsible parties. The government has stepped in to do something now, and we are ALL paying for it. The R.A.V.E. Act voting, whether it passes or not, will have its effect on us all. To look on the bright side; I am thankful to be spinning out, because nothing will stop us from raving (I am not afraid to call it that either). I am confident that we will make a comeback. This slow time is not necessarily a bad thing in my eyes, however. I believe it opens an opportunity for party throwers and promoters to start to work with the government to make everything legal and eventually "un-bustable." This also leaves time for other small-scene cities to flourish and let the talent concentrate on the music.

You're also a Live P.A. artist?
I am a live PA, as many people know, not only a DJ. I have created a concept for my performances called the "Audio-Visual-Attack." The goal of this concept is to make the most unique and energetic music and performance you may ever see on stage, hands down. I use turntables, sound devices, keyboards and many other forms of stimulation for my shows. This includes custom strobe lighting, live drumming, live on-screen visuals, and more to come.
What kind of training have you had for your music?
I have accomplished graduating from the University of North Texas with a minor in Music Theory. During this time, I took courses for my music minor that covered the basics of classical music theory in composing, aural and piano training. I also took a series of graduate level music courses that did not count for the minor. These were experimental music classes taught by Professor Butch Rovan. He helps run the Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia or CEMI program at UNT and is an incredible musical performer! The classes were technically and musically inspirational for me; I learned a ton of technical audio issues for computer applications. Most of all, it was a blast!
I have also learned to use Cubase VST for the past 4 years on my own time. Using my array of synths, samplers, and sound modules I have made some tracks that are on the E-Pro Recordings site. Those featured tracks are from 1999 or so. I am currently in the state of transferring over to Logic 5 Platinum for Macintosh. Now that Emagic (the creators of Logic) has been bought out buy Apple, you will be seeing my PowerBook on stage with me in future shows. Nothing gets me more excited than to show people what music is inside MY head.
How did you come up with that unique name?
"Jabe" is a nickname I had as a kid started by my brother Ronny. When I started to spin, I tried thinking of names. I put a "D" in front of the Jabe and connected them with the hyphen to create a unique name that did not have "DJ" in front of it. At the same time, it has a "techno name" feel to it. Some people have accidentally called me "DJ D-Jabe before," but it never bothers me.
Would you be willing to change your name in the future?
Yes. However, it only makes business sense to keep your following under a name that people already know. It sometimes sounds weird over the microphone though, which has always made me think of changing my name.
Do you want to thank anyone?
My family, Dallas Raves (Annesta and Eiwe), Keith Elliot (for all the Bass & BBQs), Allan Seale & Jimi at Disc-Go-Round in College Station, Linda Fleming for all the love and support, all of the productions crews that have brought me to show their people what I do, all the music producers that do not take too much credit, EpiK Entertainment's whole crew, and the entire E-Pro Alliance crew!
Do you have anything else to add?
Raving: MY ANTI-DRUG. We mean it.
