How and when did you get started?
I remember seeing K.C. & The Sunshine Band in 1977. That is my earliest recollection of getting "that feeling", you know, where the hair stands up on the back of your neck. When I turned 18 I was old enough to get into clubs at that point and was the guy always bugging the DJ asking him what he was playing.

My DJ career just kind of came about as series of events. I always bought records and had turntables and a mixer. I had no aspirations of becoming a club DJ. I had been going to Florida during the winters and was shopping at a record store where I had become friends with the owner. The moment my life changed was when in the summer of 91, I had an accident that left me in a half body cast for nearly 8 months. I spent that whole year learning to perfect my mixing and wound up getting a part time job at the record store.

One thing lead to another and I was working at one of the top clubs in Palm Beach, Fl. The owners opened this club during the winter season and had a sister club in South Hampton N.Y. that they operated during the summer. I went to New York that summer and worked in the Hampton's on the weekends and picked up a Wednesday night gig at the China Club in Manhattan. I moved back to South Florida in the fall of 94 and went back to work at my friend's record store.

The store was advertising on a radio station and I got to meet the program director and he suggested we do a mix show. It was great exposure and opened a lot of doors. I played a lot of clubs in Miami and Ft Lauderdale while I was living there. Through the record store I met up with the Jazz and Groove guys and they helped me out on my first production that was released on their label.

In 94 I was nominated to the Billboard Magazine DJ panel. I have been on the panel going on 10 years now and it has been an honor to be surrounded by so many talented names associated with it.

Miami was a hot bed for DJ's and producers in the mid 90's and it was a great place to be. Everything just snowballed and I was doing some pretty good gigs in the mid nineties. I played in Europe 4 times in 1995 and was lucky enough to play Ibiza in both 96 and 97.

In the summer of 98 I decided to return to Dallas. Seven was opening in July and I had been offered a residency there and at that point it just made sense. My family is here. And I wanted to start something from scratch. I have been at Seven for 5yrs.
