Who inspires you musically and why?
My influences come from everything around me…
There's a ton of people out there who inspire me. Obvious people from Sasha to Roni Size to Thievery Corporation, but I get a lot of inspiration from local people too. All my friends are making great music and that inspires me to do the same. That's the best.
How much have you changed musically since you started?
A lot. I used to play all hardcore breaks. That was my bag for years. I appreciate music in general a lot more now. I have a good taste for the different moods of electronic music. It's like a nice merlot or fine cigar.
Name two or more of your favorite tracks.
Hmmm… that changes daily.
Some of my all time favs are:
Leftfield - "Inspection(Check One)"
A Guy Called Gerald - "Voodoo Ray"
Orbital - "Belfast"
808 State - "Cubic"
Inner City - "Good Life"
Goldie - "Inner City Life"
Duran Duran - "Save A Prayer"
The Cure - "Fascination Street"
Section 25 - "Looking from a Hilltop"
New Order - "Elegia"
Damn.. I could write a book.
How about what's in my cd player right now?
Solar Spectrums- Chris Coco- disk 2 (down tempo)
Monkey Bars (house)
London Electricity (d&b)
Janes Addiction - Strays
Phil K mix cd he sent me
And a mix cd I got from Robbie Hardkiss
What was your favorite event to play at? And why?
There have been tons of magical evenings. From Twilo to the Bronco Bowl there is really too many to list. I had a blast playing at the Prodigy show back in 1995. Another opening gig that rocked was the first time the Chemical Brothers came to Dallas. I also loved that Prototype party called Three. Kid Icarus let me play last and I think I closed it up proper. I took 'em on a nice journey and will always remember the fun and energy from that night.
What is the best thing about DJing?
I love watching people dance & playing what I want to hear.
What do you see that other music artists do that annoys you?
When they get big egos and start demanding shit. That sucks. It's not called for and I normally don't stand for it.
What do you think of the current state of the Dallas Scene? What do you think we could do to improve it?
I think the scene in general is pretty strong considering what's happening all around us. I do get to travel a bit and see what's going on elsewhere and Dallas definitely has it going on in the bar scene. I can pick from a handful of places on any given night, go out, and pretty much hear what I want to hear. As for improving it, there is always room for improvement in the big clubs. They are resorting to pop music & hip-hop to get people in. That part sucks.
Any gigs/residencies/releases coming up?
This summer I'm at Club One on Fridays and having a blast there.
Saturdays I do Edgeclub (live on 102.1FM 10pm-3am)
Sundays at Mick's Bar (been going strong there since 1997)
Tons of various one offs all the time- usually something different each week.
As far as releases go… I've got some stuff I've done with Dave Aude, Blake Potter, Rob Vaughan, & Darren D that'll be out sometime soon. I also have some bootleg releases that I have to keep quiet on.
Do you want to thank anyone?
I'd really like to thank my parents. They supported me by not getting in the way of my dreams. It's all I could have ever asked for. And of course, I need to thank my girl Kimberly for letting me continue my dreams.
Do you have anything else to add?
When it's all said and done… it's just music.
