August Profile: The Carbon Community
(Dave Cannon & Cody Phillips)

How did you two get started?
Dave: Well, my older brother Jon has always been into electronic music. There was always synth pop or dance music playing at the house. I guess some time around '94 I actually started giving it more of a chance. I had always been in rock bands growing up as a guitar player, but around that time, he started playing me some of the early Orbital records, Aphex Twin, and Altern-8. I was lucky really; my brother has the most massive record collection, kind of the history of electronic music. I just started borrowing his music and really getting into it. At that point I started going to a lot of raves and soaking up the culture. I grew tired of the limitations that I saw in the conventional rock band, and really wanted to get into making electronic music. At that point there was only one person that I knew that was actually making it, so we kind of partnered up and traded information and ideas on how to do things. There was really just a lot of experimentation and guesswork really. Whew…if any of those early tracks ever saw the light of day, it would all be over! August Profile - Quote

Cody: It's been about 3 years working together as The Carbon Community. Dave and I were old High School buddies that reunited after a 5-year hiatus of doing our own thing. I was busy with school and DJing the scene here in Dallas, while he was following Orbital around the states, and moving across the US and back. I had come across Dave again at a Guitar Center when we caught up on what we have been up to musically. He explained that he had been producing Electronic music and building an arsenal of gear over the years in his studio. We agreed to hook up and see what how we would work together, and within a several week period the track "Ready For This" was born. We knew right then it was meant to be, and that something good was going to come about our collaboration.

What kind of music can we expect to hear from Carbon Community?
Dave: Hopefully it's a little bit different than the majority of stuff coming out. I'm trying to do stuff that would do equally well while your sitting at home, driving in your car, or in a live situation. Hopefully not just the flavor of the month stuff, but stuff that I can enjoy well on down the road.

Where can we buy your music?
Cody: You can buy our music locally at Bills, Core, and BPM. As far as online shops, really most record stores are carrying it. I've had good luck on PlanetXUSA.com, or you can order right off Moonshine's website for the Moonshine releases.
