It all started with the movie Hackers and the soundtrack. The one song that got to me was Underworld's - Cowgirl. I loved the energy, feeling, and overall vibe of the track. From there I bought anything of Underworld's I could find. After that I started buying Electronic Dance Music (EDM) CDs at Blockbuster Music. Underworld, the Prodigy, Fat Boy slim, Daft Punk, Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers and just anything I could get my hands on at the time. Eventually I saw the Global Underground series, and started collecting those. Those eventually paved the way to trance/progressive in the late 90's when I started buying vinyl. Yes, I bought trance records in the beginning. After a couple of years that went by I started hanging out with Sean Anderson, Dave Brown, and Brad Denton. Those guys took me in and let me use their tables since I never had any 1200s of my own. One day I was over and asked Sean what he was playing. "Tech House," he replied. I started the House path and didn't look back at progressive.

I started buying Tech House records and playing with Sean Anderson on Wednesday nights upstairs at the Sandbar in the fall of 2001. Anytime I could play records and practice, I would. I never had 1200s so every Wednesday was literally practice for me. In early 2002 I got a job at Core records as backup help, 1 day a week. Soon that turned into more days and I started buying at least $100 in records a week while I worked there. Working at Core with Demarkus, Chrisko, Rob Vaughn, and Zuul opened up a lot of doors for me. Now I'm able to play with all of these people that I looked up to, and still do.
Looking thru my crates of records I'd say I've got mainly Deep House, Vocal House, Chunky Peanut Butter House, Bumpin' House, some bootlegs here and some Tech House there. So I'm gonna go ahead and say House!
I'd say yes, Dallas definitely has a really good House thing going on right now. We've got a DJ from another city on a weekly basis once, if not twice a week, and overlapping in some cases. It's so good that sometimes there's just TOO much to do. The reason I think we've got a good thing going is because of the great amount of respect we've got for each other. We as DJ's and promoters are working together instead of against each other. With people like Jeremy "Monarch" Duke compiling events, and printing out House information cards, it gives anyone the lowdown as to what's happening any night of the week.
It's hard for me to say. The only times I've gotten to hear House outside of Dallas, is at WMC (Winter Music Conference) and on the occasional vacation. I can say that Dallas has a tremendous amount of talent in DJs and producers. I can say that some of the nation's, if not world's, top House producers right now either live in Dallas, or are from here originally. I can say that I'm lucky to be here, and able to play with and listen to these professionals.
