What kind of music can we expect to hear from you?
Various forms of house music: deep, techie, acid. I would love to play my old dnb tunes somewhere.
Would you consider Dallas a House music town? If so why do you think it is such?
Most definitely. I think most of the world would be shocked to hear that every night of the week here is not completely packed, or even close. In my opinion Dallas is where it's at. It may not be visible in the bars and clubs all the time, but there is always something brewing. This city is being watched closely.
You think Dallas has its own sound when it comes to House music?
It's hard to say. The producers and labels out of Dallas are so versatile that it would be hard to put a label on it. I do think that Dallas house has a hint of southern flare to it. Most of it just grooves no matter if it's deep, techie, broken beat, etc. I'm really proud of our producers and labels and to be from Dallas. Grab Recordings is smokin'.
Who/what inspires you musically and why?
First of all - my husband DeMarkus. Even if I didn't know him I would be a die hard fan of his music. We're playing in Ireland together soon and I've already called one of his best tracks for both nights. I still get nervous dj'ing or working on music around him. Sometimes when I'm on my computer I just sit and listen to how flawlessly and effortlessly he puts tracks together. Next thing I know I'm lost in it forgetting what I was even doing to begin with. It really motivates me. My new production partner Ronin inspires me as well. We connect in the studio extremely well. Most of the time we don't even talk and then we'll find that sound or groove and just look at each other like, "oh yeah". It's a great feeling.
Do you listen to any non electronic dance music? If so, what do you listen to?
I listen to everything but country. (Sorry Sarah ;-)
Name your top two tunes at the moment.
This question should be illegal!
What was your favorite event to play at? And why?
Texture in Austin in 2001. The dance floor was packed, the sound was loud, the drinks kept coming after 2 am and I was able to play as late as I wanted. My first house set at blackout lounge was cool too. DeMarkus bowed down to me afterwards and we were broken up at the time so it was extra sweet.
Any upcoming gigs or releases you'd like to list?
Gigs:
May 20: Bodytonic @ Wax: Dublin, Ireland
May 21: Vinyl @ Dolans: Limerick, Ireland
July 1: Zentra: Chicago, IL
Upcoming Releases: Urban Jazz Naturals "Now that I don't need you - Housewife's groove" Grin
I'm also working on my first solo EP as well as a collaborative EP from Ronin and myself.
Where can we buy your music?
What do you think of the current state of the Dallas scene? And what do you think we can do to improve it?
I think it's doing well. We need to get more people into the house weeklies. I think the househeads support as much as they can but we just need to target new people. Instead of always promoting within the house community we need to get our nights out to everyone.
Is there anything you see that other musicians do that annoys you?
Local dj's that get pissy and big headed about local gigs, topless dj's, bad singing over sets, buying drinks on my tab (I'll get you back), trainwrecks, wearing superstar dj gloves, blowing the monitor, leaving the setup jacked from the night before, and grabbing my ass while I'm working.
