What kind of music can we expect to hear from you?
I love the melodic soulful stuff with Drum and Bass, so you'll hear a lot of that in my sets. I'm not afraid to bring out different styles though.
I have been getting into a lot of House, so I might start collecting and playing some of that out. It doesn't ever hurt to play more then one genre.
How much have you changed musically since you started?
The more I play the more I find myself getting really soulful in my taste of music. I like trying to bring in as many elements as possible.
What is the best thing about Djing or promoting?
When you can tell that everyone is having a great time and dancing to the music. Helping to create that vibe gives you a feeling that is indescribable.
Who/what inspires you musically and why?
Music that touches the soul. There is nothing like letting music take you somewhere else, even for just a minute.
What CDs do you recommend people check out for someone who wants to buy a Drum & Bass CD but doesn't know what to get?
Any of the Progression Sessions CDs on Good Looking Records. LTJ Bukem is just an amazing DJ. There are record label CD mixes out on Hospital and Soul:R that people should check out as well. It's just really hard to name CDs because I get a lot of my mixes from downloads.
How do you feel about dubplate culture within the scene? Is this hindering or encouraging progress in terms of getting the sound heard?
This topic has been debated for many years. I don't get too hung up on dubplates though; it's good to see where the sound is going. There is that dubplate circle within the scene that has exclusive right to play them, mostly the big producers/DJs. whereas; everyone else has to wait for the releases. It's the way things have been since the beginning, whether you like it or not. Dubplates aren't going anywhere.
Do you listen to any non electronic dance music? If so, what do you listen to?
It's always good to just get out of the box and listen to something different. However, it seems like 90% of the time I'm listening to EDM, it's just in my blood.
Name your top two tunes at the moment.
This is just a hard question because there is so much quality Liquid Funk tunes out right now. I'm really feeling these two:
Klute-Crosby
Calibre-Hypnotise
What was your favorite event to play at? And why?
Playing at Battletech for the first time. Everything was clicking for me that night and it was in a room packed full of people. I love moments like that.
Any upcoming gigs you'd like to list?
Since Drummatik is no more, I don't have as many constant gigs as I used to. I will occasionally fill in for Jeremy B at the Thursday D&B weekly at Shade, so keep your eye out
What do you think of the current state of the Dallas scene? And what do you think we can do to improve it?
The D&B scene right now seems to be going through a down time. It seems like it is really hard to please people these days. There really isn't a lot of local support and when there is support it is only for the big headliners. Dallas has a lot of talent and that's not just in the D&B scene. It is kind of disappointing and I know I'm not the only one. Don't take things for granted cause we are very lucky to have what we do have right now. If we can't get out and support then there might not be anything for us to do in the future. Seems like everyone is trying to do their own thing, which is fine, but there really isn't any unity in pushing the sound. It's like a back and forth struggle that doesn't do anything but hinder what we are all trying to do.
Is there anything you see that other musicians do that annoys you?
It's all about having fun, and sometimes I think people forget that.
Do you want to thank anyone?
My parents, My fellow members in Stamina (Jeremy B, Nick, Oh_feek, Johnathan), The Covert Ops Crew (Katalyst, Wes, Gammah, Chrisko, Rumble), The Covert Ops Street Team (Leo, Tiny, Trek), Astronomical MC and everyone in Drummatik, Jaime McCormack for taking pictures of me for this interview, everyone that has supported me in the past, all the promoters that have booked me, and the D&B and House Scene in Dallas for giving me something to do every week.
