Occasionally we bring you a type of rare talent that breaks the boundaries of dance music as we know it. The type of dj that shakes the foundations of this very scene. One that infuses creativity, poise, determination and purpose into a career that guides the way of many young artists.
This is not one of those times.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we bring you Eric Scholwinski aka E-Dub aka E-Double aka E-Triple aka The Bathroom Bandit aka Fence Jumper.
As I sat down with Eric in a Motel 6 off of Loop 12 on the outskirts of west Dallas, I discovered a scene worthy of a renegade porno. A burnt offering of incense and menthol cigarettes filled the air as a housekeeper and married mother of 4 shared a cigarette next to a cracked window.
After having a seat and accidentally placing my hand in the wet spot for a moment, we began the interview and I soon came to find out that Eric is not just the red-headed stepchild of the dallas scene, but a devoted supporter of house music. Chances are every time you've seen him he's had a mix hot of the press to hand out or a new party to promote. As a dj he is energetic and solid, bringing a fresh perspective on the new, old and eclectic. He is constantly looking to keep diversity in his music and create a unique vibe wherever he plays.
You could have chosen anywhere in the world to showcase
your skills, why
Dallas?
Well after playing all around the US, I find Dallas needs all the help it can get! But really, I love Texas Women and Dallas has a nice night life, with great locals. You have people like Fresco, Offbeat, Got House?, Grin Music and Prototype doing GREAT things! Tons of House Music's Top producers also come from Dallas as well! So I figured, why not another?
Your mother, a famous disco queen of the 70's (who shall remain
nameless), has had a lot of influence on you. Tell us about it.
I don't really have enough time to explain this, but a long story short:
It's a long journey of GREAT MUSIC, passed from one GREAT person to the NEXT. This is why my sound is Unique , It's a mixture of Jazz, Disco, Oldies, Punk Rock, Grunge and Funk.
How do you deal with the fans? How do you keep your cool?
I love the fans! Some people think I'm an asshole when I am out, but It's always about business when I am out in Dallas, I like it yes, but I do like to come out and just listen to some good music and be a non "local celebrity".
Oh and Plenty of Absinthe...
