By Juan Porrata
Most recently, he has held residencies at current venues such as Shade,
Micks and his current Tuesday at Slip Inn and his Saturdays in the back room
at Zubar.
Now focusing on getting his accumulated bank of music and production
projects to fruition and out to the world by 2007 stayed tuned for some very
interesting things to come.
Ask anyone who considers themselves a student of music this young fresh
fellow is regarded by many with having a notably wide and impeccable taste
in all forms of music besides of course his ever persistent brand of
intelligent and irreverent humor.
Tell me about your current production (whom it
involves/methods/goals/etc.)
Style wise its primarily hip hop with some leanings towards downtempo and
trip hop with some excursions into house music. I've worked with Hydroponic
Sound System on 4 tracks and currently focused on a solo production project
featuring various vocalists Aaron B and his girl Angi as well as MC's such
as Tahiti and Al Lyric. The other project i'm working is called Disco Nap
with some well known Dallas producers trying to rediscover the common ground
in house and hip hop akin to the Francois K, Pal Joey, Bobby Konders vibe
pushed at clubs such as the Loft back in the day.
Who are some of greatest hip hop influences besides Vanilla Ice (just
kidding)
DJ Premier, DJ Vadim, 9th Wonder and ,of course, my first love,
Tack Head
Most people would associate you with classic hip hop. what are some of
your influential tracks?
Any DJ Premier/Gangstarr releases, Public Enemy
'Night of the Living Basehead' and Yz 'Thinking of a Master Plan'
Any Thanks?
Thank you to Miles A. Head and Baby G., Greg @ Slip Inn and
Ray @ Zubar. I'd also add skinny fresh and rube (hydroponic sound system)
Bonus question: where the does the moniker Gobodo come from?
It's a
Yoruban (African) word meaning "Who knows what happens tomorrow".
Right On Terry! Take it back to the motherland, son.
