July 2008 Profile:
|
By Juandingo
Coming out of the hard streets of Coppell is this month's profile, Kyle Nuss. While known on the block as RH Paperstacks he may be better known to partygoers as your Royal Highnuss. One of my favorite faders on the fader, Kyle can be found playing at the wildly popular Dub Assembly shows which have gained international recognition for helping to broadcast the Dubstep sound. A relative newcomer to the scene, Kyle first started attending DNB events dating back to 2002. He later started to develop his sound after attending the now defunct Groovology Sunday nights at Homebar in 2006 and with its demise was then eventually asked to kick off the new Dub Assembly nights from his mentor Jason Mundo when they decided to begin a new exploration of sounds calling itself Dubstep. Incorporating various UK elements as well throwing in some of the Dirty South's hip hop fines, these dj's are helping to define a new genre of music and help put their own twist on it. Look for Kyle on candy mountain or at any other events where bass music and wonky beats are needed.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound is Bass music for the all people, whether you're chillin up in the cut, at the club, or if you are taking it easy on a Sunday. I'll play anything from dubstep, grime, hip hop, dancehall, or reggae.
So you don't try to limit yourself?
I'm really into pushing the clitoral bass sound right now! I want to get a lot of the womenz excited with the bass music thumping.
Who are your influences past and present?
I'm influenced from all types of music but the things that have helped define my sound would definitely have to be Reggae, the RZA, Rammelzee, Wiley, and of course Bun B.
What are some of your affiliations?
Dub Assembly, Unit One, D.A.K. and S4S (sixty4squares) and Air Wave Interference.
Who do you want to thank?
I want to thank firstly Jason Mundo, all of my Dub Assembly and Unit One family, Phasen1 (D4 Reppin! CUTTY 4 Life), all the DJ's that I have played with, Juandingo, Erin Lee, Kitty, Amy, Mike S, Kelle Marie, Gilbert, Drex, Scotty, Ty, Tomb, Luis D, Chris Parson, John C, all the sound guys at the various clubs that I've played at, and lastly all the promoters.
Finally, I'd like to thank all my babies mama's for giving me grief these last couple of years... paternity tests don't lie ladies but thanks for the motivation for me to quit blowing my money at the track and get back to hustlin'.
You can check Kyle out at the Upcoming Dub Assembly 2 Year Anniversary party at the Green Elephant on Saturday, July 19th. He'll be playing alongside guest dj Hatcha (UK), Mundo & Lifted MC and Keith P.
