10charIn the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.
if your concern (which I am inferring) is that because they are private citizens they do not operate under the same restrictions as the police then I can assure you that is specifially not the case.
A private citizen acting at the direction of the gov't (cops) is deemed an agent of the state and therefore the same rules apply.
The LA times said that this was the DEA's solution to replace all of the local police agencies that now refuse to take part in pot related raids. Basically the California state police, LA County Sheriff, and the LAPD will no longer allow the DEA to use state resources or officers for Federal investigations relating to medical marijuana......now now the feds are outsourcing the work.
you don't know what you're talking about which is why you're concerned.
These guys, if acting as "private cops" for the gov't have to follow the same rules and the same evidentiary exclusionary rules apply for any evidence seized.
If you want cases cited I'll give them to you my retainer is $500 otherwise just beileve me, non-governmental employees acting at the direction of the government are agent sothe state and subject to abide by the same rules as the cops
I'm agreeng w/you Keving and using your response to expand upon my response to Hubb
Cali's pissed that the Feds are enforcing a law Cali repealed and refuse to permit CA resouces be used in the enforcement of those federal laws.... this isn't a way to skirt the law its a way to say "fuck you" to the feds.
blackwater shouldn't be doing the dea's normal jobs. period. are they bad guys? no.. most are highly trained ex-military.. is something shady going on? i doubt it.. but unless there is a specific raid with highly dangerous targets that needs the skillsets provided by blackwater, i think they should leave raiding pot farms to the fucking d.e.a. or local authorities. there is NO NEED for a former special operations group to be raiding a pot farm. unless whoever calls the shots is simply trying to hook their friends up with govt contracts for $$$.

The DEA has been using blackwater for years in South America, that "hostage" that jsut got released from the Columbian drug cartels last month was a former CIA agent working for Blackwater when he was captured over 10 years ago. This is nothing new, its just a little disturbing to see that they are now using them inside the US against American business owners for the first time.
They make no secret of using blackwater in Columbia to do things that the US government isnt allowed to do because of pesky "Laws" and such. It makes me very cautious to see that an agency that exists in the first place to do the governments dirty work overseas has now been called in to do dirty work in the states against US citizens for the first time.
While in theory the practice of private law enforcement might be legal, it is not by any means sound and it leaves room for alot of wiggle.
I dont care what the reason is, if our government cant enforce a law without spending more money outside of the budget that has been allocated to enforce said law, shit is fucked. If a group of people (state of CA) dont want to waste resources, and the DEA doesnt want to use their resources, why are we using more of the taxpayers resources to enforce something that no one wants to. I think I just talked my self blind. Its fucking painful to even try and deduct any type of reasoning from the situation.
