Thread: Bill White?

I think that if any Democrat can do it, it's Bill White. It's going to be a squeaker, though, and it's all about who has a better ground game. I'm helping with his campaign (just phone banking, nothing major), and they're pretty solid in Austin, but I don't know about the rest of the state. He's pretty strong with Hispanic voters, so that's a good sign, and he's got Houston, Austin, and Dallas locked up - it remains to be seen how he'll do with rural voters, though. It's a good sign that Perry won't debate him, IMO.

Both of them suck much. The only decent candidate lost in the Repub primary. Bill White will just put us on the fast track to looking like California and New York.

Meh. I'd say he's got a puncher's chance. He's out-fundraising Perry, which is what he needs. Between that and the fact that there are people who are voting against all incumbents might be enough. I'll call it 70/30 Gov. Shithead wins.

I think that Bill white has his solutions to our fiscal woes as well as our unemployment....and he also has a solid platform on environmental issues and education. I like White because he is not too far to the left. More of a conservative Dem. That being said, the demographic of Cali is a major player in why they cannot get shit right. Bill White does not prescribe to most of the more radical, extreme positions taken by his party.

I would like to see him out Perry, whom I have nothing good to say about really, other than he wants our border secured and Obama is blowing him off. I think Perry denied something or other, so when a few weeks later, we had all the flooding in the Southern part of the state from the tropical storm, and Perry asked for emergency funds, Obama said go fuck yourself. I disagree with Obama taking the low road, especially when people in our state were suffering.

I am also impressed with White's campaign. Yea, he has run some negative ads detailing Perry's shortcomings and exploits, but he has mostly stuck to presenting his ideas and why he feels he is most qualified, without getting in the gutter.

I would love to see White take it, as we need a change of the guard....If I am doing my match right, Perry wins, he will have served as Governor for 18 years? I think he has been in for 12 thus far....correct me if I am wrong here, but if that is the case, it is definitely time to mix things up. It is unfortunate Kay Bailey didn't even come close to winning the primary, as I think she is better qualified than Perry. Anywho, got a little carried away here.

White I think has a fighting chance to take it, but I am afraid Perry may be taking this one.

Bummer.

Shaggy, I did a Google search, and Vinnie's statement, while hardly original, yielded no hits except for this thread. It may be total crap, but it's not plagiarized.

Right now, 538 has it at 44% to 53%, so it's not particularly close. I've really been questioning the validity of a lot of polls this cycle, though, especially with how they determine likely voters, and polling calls being restricted to landlines. Bill White's ground game has been pretty good, and they're pushing the GOTV hard right now, so I'm thinking he'll do better than the polls would suggest. Whether he'll do good enough to overcome a 9% gap is doubtful, though.

Shags, Houston's deficit is pretty deep in the red (which I know can't all be blamed on White), and White actually participated in a recent gay pride parade (I realize he's a politician fishing for their votes)...so he doesn't come across as someone with a very conservative record, IMO.

You know that Houston just elected an open lesbian for a mayor, right?
