I'd be behind it if it had a coherent agenda instead of being a disorganized mess and a collection of competing groups each clamoring for the non-existent media attention.

Yeah, same here. Typical disorganized hippies - if they could even tell me what they're protesting for I might get behind it.

    Re: #occupywallstreet

hmm...i disagree. seems like a coherent agenda isnt working for everyone else lol. funny how a non-coherent agenda is spreading like a wildfire. i would rethink your position on that issue.

the old hippie excuse...funny and original.

occupydallas is happening thursday. per their facebook page they have over 4,000 likes and have over 725 people claiming attendance. I dont even thing the the page has been up that long either.

gonna take a lot more people than that...but the idea is in too many peoples heads...too many people know and seem to agree with the protest that have been on pretty much media black out since they began almost 3 weeks ago.

    Re: #occupywallstreet

What is that coherent agenda? Because I haven't heard it yet and I have been paying attention to this. I've heard nothing besides "down with the man", "socialism and socialized democracy trumps American style corporate democracy" and people crying because they have a shitty life. I used to have a shit life and then I did something about it. I'm not rich, but I run a company that employs people and have investments in those same banks that they are protesting. Does that make me part of the 1%? Because it doesn't feel like it.

I'm a centrist leaning liberal and think that these protests are all well and good but are the left wing version of the Tea Party bullshit. Let the eccentrics have their say and let them fade into oblivion or where ever wingbats go when they retire (ala Palin, Glenn Beck and Michelle Bachman.)

i think you are mistaken. the system is broken...the man is in bed with the enemy...people are fed up with it.

    Re: #occupywallstreet

OK, what parts of the system is broken and what are concrete ways to fix it?

All I am hearing from this protest is that things are fucked up and there needs to be a change. But nobody is saying what it needs to change to and how to do it. That's what I mean by a disjointed movement and a lack of a unifying message. I mean the list of demands put out earlier this week had dozens of things on it which had nothing to do with each other. Everything from don't eat animals to the IMF is a tool of the corporate elite. Both are valid points but are so unrelated that they don't belong in the same forum.

This is more of a leftist protest convention and less of a place to get things accomplished. It has no focus and I don't think it will get one. It's a shame too. I'd like to see protests like this on a more focused agenda. Like one against corporate lobbying and control of our legislation to the highest bidder. Need a congress person's vote in a measure that interests your company? Donate to his cause and election funds. And then promise a smear campaign with commercials for their political rivals if they don't vote your way. Bring this to light on the steps of Congress. Or how about one against the FDA about Cargill and other corporations polluting our food supplies and wrecking the small farmer's way of life. These are all things that are on the protest agenda right now. These things should be tackled one thing at a time instead of all at once. It cheapens the individual issues by grouping them together and yelling about how the man is betraying the people. When I hear that crap, I tune it out as bleating sheep. When I hear focused details about how individual issues are wrong and here's how to fix them, I listen and vote on those issues. Don't be a lemming and follow the crowd onto the Brooklyn Bridge to be arrested, find the issues that bother you the most and act on them.

Honestly, I think the entire thing is so poorly managed it will never take off like they want it to.

    No message.
    No solution to offer.
    No plan.

All I've seen is a bunch of socialist propaganda and dirty unbathed college dropouts screaming random words like "Oppression!" and "Fascist!" and a bunch of shit about Nazis.

I think a bunch of kids with guitars and day dreams about resurrecting the hippy movement are trying so hard to be a revolutionist they forgot they needed something to revolt against. So they just chose a bunch of shit at random.

i agree w/ demand #1 & think it should have been done a long time ago esp in regards to china, but the funny thing is is that if we did that, the less fortunate & impoverished would suffer the most from the price increases.

i agree their should be some baseline health insurance for individuals similar to social security or medicare, doesn't mean get rid of private policies (in which case you could opt out of the gov tax), just an insurance policy for the collective in case some medical emergency happens.

#3 that's a lil tricky, although it would be nice.

#4 who's paying for it? (let me guess, wall st.)

    #5 how?

    #6 again who pays??

#7 seriously??? just get wall st. to charge it to the game, lol.

#8 pretty much there minus gay marriage in some states.

#9 huh? ok now no one is taking you seriously.

#10 would be time consuming, but i'm not against it.

    #11 that would rule!!

    #12 that would also rule!!!

#13 ok now you're just running out of ideas...

So enforce strict trade tariffs while having open borders. Sounds like a winner.

maybe it's just within the u.s. i don't know, just thought maybe that's what they meant since like you said nobody is keeping you from crossing state lines & working somewhere else.

either way though, i don't think these "demands" have been thought out too critically by the people espousing them.

i think everybody realizes our system has some major problems & needs some changes, but it seems like the solutions lie more with changing things in d.c.

Def not. I doubt the people demanding a minimum wage of $20/hr have even begun to think about what affect that would have on the price of everything.
