Didn't we declare that part of the wild a piece of land that was to have never been touched? From what I've read, there is an estimated 10 billion barrels in that region of Alaska. Even with that amount of oil I still don't see how we can seperate ourselves from the middle-east. We consume almost 20M barrels of oil per day. I did the math the other day and came to the conclusion that if we relied upon the anwar capacity it would last just over 2 years.
I know that we would never do such a thing, but it just shows that the amount of oil that is supposed to be in Alaska really isn't that much. And I don't see how the prices would go down that much either.
Who knows.
