Can Appreciation Thread

I could say many things of Can, but at the moment, I'm listening to "Halleluhwah", an 18+ minute track the last four minutes of which is what could be anachronistically identified as Atmospheric DnB; which is strange because the track is from Can's second full-length album, released in '71.

It shouldn't pass as too much a shock, considering Can, along with Neu!, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Ash Ra Tempel, etc., as well as Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and John Cage, can be readily accredited as pioneers of Electonica; but I've just always figured Drum and Bass to be a direct descendent of the 80's and early 90's, predated almost exclusively by its Techno and Breakbeat parents.

The last four minutes of this song is four minutres of unlfiltered evidence of Drum and Bass first rearing its twitchy head in Cologne, Germany. No wonder Eric Scholwankski dislikes DnB.
