80lbs of shit in a 5lb bag......the Xbox 360 is basically a PowerMac G5 desktop with a kickass video card. The problem is that the Powermac G5 machines were all liquid cooled monsters and came in a case thats almost 3ft tall. Microsoft decided to try to cool what is essentially the same chip as the G5 with heat syncs and fans in a tiny enclosure thinking that that video games would never push the chip enough to overheat the systems. The reason that the problem is more common now is because nearly every new release title is pushing the chip to its max and cooking the shit out of the machines. Its bad architecture from the ground up, mixed with poor future planning.
