Well, it's not like the toddler can defend itself. It's essentially shooting someone to prevent a murder so I understand that portion. I'm not going to blame the people who stopped to help. It was a dark country road and they were running up on some crazy who's punching and kicking something that appeared to be a toddler (which was probably hard to identify in the dark). I doubt they had much time to do anything but call the cops. Even then, if someones beating a toddler at full bore there's really no saving the toddler anyway.
