I'm glad you've come to terms with what the huffingtonpost is all about. Because the outside time frame for his promotion to admiral was what, eight years, and he'd been captain already for two. So yeah, if he'd stayed in the Navy a few more years he most likely would've become an Admiral...most likely not a four star one, but one none the less.
