I'm related to someone with inside details on this and I'm writing because this frankly makes me sick. Russ' entourage is circling the wagons around him furiously so they don't lose their "clubhouse".
The Russ Martin Camp is currently trying to make this issue "go away" by offering to plead guilty to a much lesser offense. This of course involves making a financial offer to his ex-fiance for the tape and her willingness to recant some of the more damning details of her story and drop all charges. You see, Russ was surprised by a few things. He didn't expect that he had really left any physical evidence on his now ex-fiance. He also believed, due to similar incidents in the past, that he would be able to smooth this over with her. He didn't expect the police to be so responsive to her either but her case luckily got a female judge that is NOT a fan! Of course, the biggest surprise for him was that she left with an audio tape that he knows would be damning in court and to his career.
So, this now depends upon whether or not he can offer her enough money for her to allow him out of this. That's the big IF right now. Also, it took a couple of days, but now that the CBS brass has gotten ahold of this, they are very unhappy. Realizing the potential community backlash if they allow him to return to the air; considerations are being made to dismiss him based upon standard "morals clauses".
And last but not least, part of the IRS investigation involves the Russ Martin Listeners Foundation. You can draw your own conclusions about that.
