Thats exactly it.......You have your own family to be responsable for, in your home you are Dad and your family depends on you to keep them safe from situations like that. While he is your brother, he is not your responsibility and there is no reason that you should feel obligated to compromise the security of your home to give him a place to sleep.
My oldest brother went through some shaky times and as difficult as it was I had to keep him out of my house...even when he had nowhere to sleep and no one else to help. If he was sick I would give him a ride to the ER, if he was starving I would give him some food.....but I never allowed him to come into my home or get close to my family until he pulled his head out of his ass and got his shit together. It took him about 10 years of fuckups to finally come around, but it did happen. If my family and I had enabled him he would likely still be a piece of shit and who knows what it would have cost me in the process. Sometimes not helping is the best help you can provide.
