they did. Jeremy Enigk and Dan Hoerner felt like the band wasn't going anywhere. William Goldsmith and Nate Mendal went to play the drums and bass (respectively) for Foo Fighters. William left Foo in '97.
Then 'The Fire Theft' formed w/Jeremy, William and Nate in '01 (I think). Nate was/is still with Foo Fighters. If you haven't, you should check out their self-titled album.
They are worth seeing. I've seen them numerous times and have yet to be disappointed (both SDRE and The Fire Theft). Never did get to see Jeremy solo. I shared a drink with him once though and that was more than enough for this fan. I've been in love with that man for yeaarrss.
