This was approached before with Afrika Bambaataa/Soul Sonic Force with "Planet Rock" where the medium was pushed forward. Kanye didn't break a barrier that hadn't been broken through already. I credit Pharrell/The Neptunes more with making Electronic music more accessible to the black community than him. He did at least do something to spark more interest though by him going with the style, though.
