1) They don't have a choice, the Knicks are floating a 3-year deal out there and the Mavs can't lose him or else they're going to have Speedy Gonzalez running the point.
2) Kidd's got plenty of leverage. He's got half a dozen teams going after him right now including Dallas, Cleveland, & the Knicks.
