Welcome to the first installment of frequently asked questions of the Music/DJ/Producer forum. I'm trying to cut down on the number of repeat threads for the exact same question.
One which I notice a TON of is people asking how to track their demo out. There's actually quite a few ways to do this, however the easiest seems to be with Soundforge or Cool Edit Pro (now known as Adobe Audition). Below I have included quotes and links to previous threads outlining the process for each program. Good Luck!

When you've got your file:
-Special menu / Regions list / clear
-Place markings at the track breaks by positioning the cursor at the appropriate place and pressing M [remember to Mark the beginning and end of the CD too! Important!]
-Special menu / Regions list / Markers to regions
-Tools / extract regions
This will save all the regions to separate files, and it only takes about 2 minutes to save...

i would suggest just using cool edit pro 2.0. you will be able to record, set track marks, delete any dead space, and burn it with the same program. this process only takes about an hour and a half to do. i am including the time to mix the set, track it, and burn it. if you need any other info about this leave a message on here. i am sure i will get back with you. o yea one more thing, cool edit pro 2.0 will give you the option to save the files in alot of different formats...

Also in that second thread, there's a small tip on using WaveLab. I have no experience with this program, but the instructions seem simple enough so I thought I'd include it.
Please feel free to add your own 2 cents on proper tracking techniques ONLY. Anything non-constructive or not pertaining to the topic at hand will be deleted. I'll start other threads as time goes on for EQing, mixing, phrasing, hooking up your equipment, etc.
