![]() | The Joys of bling-bling
10 months ago, I went to Neiman Marcus and picked out a couple of deseigner shirts from their Ermenegildo Zegna collection. Regularly priced between $100 - $350 a shirt. I bought three shirts on sale and thought, not a big deal.. I'll pay them off over a few installments. Material things do not bring a person happiness, this is true, but they can make them feel good for awhile, but at what cost? I'm picturing a world where people drop a chunk of money on a brand new Convertable M3 and I think to myself, why would somebody pay that much money? The car is definitely nice, but if a convertable M3 was affordable to everybody, would everybody be driving it? If another car came along, not as nice looking, but priced twice as much, would people buy it? I would think most likely yes. Would this be attributed to vanity or something else? Any successful mainstream hiphop artist can tell you a little something about some bling-bling in your face, So what drives this need to have a little something more than the others, Be it unique abilities or material wares? Is it capitalism? I think a lot of the blame can be placed on consumerism and advertising, but are we trying to shift the blame for primal human behaviors? What drives a person to want to turn a profit? And is that a bad thing? Personally, I'd love to be a mutli-millionaire. Who wouldn't? But the question I ask, what are the various reasons and motives for people's urge to turn a profit (or generate wealth for one's self) and does this affect everyone and why? We all have general ideas about what's good and bad and each have viewpoints, I'm a pretty strong capitalist in my views. But, I'd like to explore the nature of man's pursuit of wealth with whoever wants to participate...

Wants and needs my man. Basis of Marketing and Advertising as I am sure you are aware off. You can see it in empires of old and new "empires," as the hardships of life are overcome the focus shifts from survival to enjoyment; of course excessiveness can start and the ownership of material things for happiness becomes an addiction. Generally speaking we do ussually get what we pay for, but what's the limit? I try to think what it must be like to be Bill Gates, or maybe Donald Trump, or one of the Onasis, what do you do once you have acquiere all that wealth? One thing that I have figured out, from observation alone, is that traveling and the taking in of culture is one of the top things that "affluent" people do; and why not? One has the money to afford the luxury of traveling and not being tied down to a desk job all the time. Personaly, my tastes far exceed my means
