Can you even imagine what the conservative press would be doing with this had it been John Kerry who was so blatantly caught in a lie - a lie that resulted in a war? But, no mention of this by any major news source. No, it takes a "fringe" group like MoveOn to even try and reveal this to the public. And what do the conservatives on the board have to say? Absolutely nothing. Even they can't conjure up an excuse, so they'll just ignore it. The only thing sicker than this administration are the millions of apologists that follow them.  |

Hussein was a problem we would've had to deal with eventually, one way or another. Setting aside the methods in which we went to war for a moment, I think that getting him out of power was a pretty big favor to the planet. But yeah, that's fucked up. Rumsfeld is a madman for sure. Get these fucken guys out of office!!!!!!!  |

Can you not understand how completely fucked up this is? You all got duped, plain and simple. You can come back and make excuses, talk about the good things coming from this war, etc. But don't forget that these same lies we were told months ago by Rumsfeld and company were the same lies the war supporters were repeating to us like parots in the months preceding this war. I think what's even worse is that Howard Dean can make 1 noise that's completely meaningless and the media will play it hundreds of times a day on each media outlet, but when a lie proven outright about a cause of war, that's completely overlooked. It's a compounded problem of media complicity. Kerry says something stupid, or something that wasn't polite about Republicans, and that's huge news. Meaningless comments are big news...outright lies by the Secretary of Defense about a war that has left both Iraqis and US soldiers dead...no news at all.

So wait.. he says people would believe that the threat is not imminent and maybe 5 to 7 years, etc etc.. and that he's not for sure if that is true? it sounds like he was undecided to me... not flat out saying it was an imminent threat... let's look at this: Friedman: Right here it says, some have argued ‑‑ this is you speaking, some have argued that the nuclear threat from Iraqi is not imminent, that Saddam is at least five to seven years away from having nuclear weapons, I would not be so certain. Rumsfeld: And ‑‑ Friedman: That's close to imminent. It still sounds like the position they've always taken: uncertain, which doesn't justify war, but based on the shared global intelligence, they made a move.... Now, let's continue: Rumsfeld: Well, I've tried to be precise, and I've tried to be accurate. Friedman: No terrorist state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people, and the stability of the world than the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Ok, now this is where it becomes questionable, but still open ended... He says no terrorist state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people... so then... if Iraq was less a threat than imminent, that means other terrorist nations must have posed even a lesser threat than Iraq, correct? Remember, we went to war with Afghanistan to root out Al Qaeda, not that afghanistan posed an imminent threat to us... The war in Iraq is still an open ended mess.... no lie or truth was said in these statements...just more obscurity...
