| Fort Worth = anti-experimental?
I've noticed there are not many outlets for experimental and/or avantgarde electronic music here in Fort Worth. I won't say that about Dallas, because the music scene there is nice and thick all around, but it frustrates me that there is not somewhere here in Fort Worth that focuses on such things. But i know there are people here who could be into it - that's the tough part, finding the people to dig your sound. Anyone here care to add, elaborate? |

I think FW still has some potential as well. I think FW has been ignored in the past few years for a few reasons. One, there aren't lots of clubs down there that are not country music, and very few that are large enough for good events. I think Fort Worth is more associated with bars than Dallas is. Two, as the Plano area has grown, it's put a lot of people too far away to drive to downtown Fort Worth or anything south or west of downtown without really good reason. Especially with the number of events that go down in Dallas. Three, there's not a large youth crowd around the city. While the mid-cities used to be a popular place to move because of the airport, the area is pretty much locked in and the Plano area is the place to move to. A lot of the midcities and the northern suburbs of Fort Worth are older neighborhoods with older people living in them. In fact, I'm really surprised there haven't been clubs opening up in downtown Plano. Maybe there's not enough old warehouse areas to build them, or Plano doesn't want them there. I think the free parking and the work Fort Worth has done to revitalize it's downtown will help put electronic music back into the city. There's also a lot of empty little buildings that could be used for events and whatnot. I think that it is going to take a few years of hard work promoting solid events to really turn Fort Worth around, maybe the development of clubs in some of the areas outside of downtown. It might be a good place for trance, hard house, and other underrepresented genres to try to get a foothold where they won't have to compete for the same handful of clubs.

Wednesdays-Black Cats Thursdays-The pig(Forgotten City) Sundays-Tequilas(Frequency) They all do Drum and Bass_Trance_Breaks_House_Hard House and every thing else. Iam trying to start something saturdays in down town but I need some time to lay everything out and pick a venue |

Is it one dj playing different genres together, or is it one set of one genre, but different sets/dj's? I'm always weary of places that say the dj spins "everything" because it usually means: 1. It's a lie, at best there is 1 or 2 tracks from another genre and the rest of the set is one genre. 2. The dj sucks and is randomly throwing (trainwrecking) tracks together. 3. The dj really is throwing tracks together from random genres and that doesn't sound right, period.

That's because Fort Worth doesn't have many outlets for any kind of music except some country here and there. The only good experimental shows I've been to have been the Tigerbeat6 shows at Rubber Gloves Rehersal Studio in Denton.

Come check out Feel @ Monte Carlo's every Thursday night. Last week Carl Cue and Wes Glock were spinning everything from hip-hop to house to 2-step and breaks. They've got $2 you-call-its and some badass pizza. If you've never been there before, Monte Carlo's is over in Arlington just north of 20 on Cooper, behind the Jack in the Box. Depending on where you live in Ft. Worth, it's probably not more than ten or fifteen minutes - that's less time than it takes to go downtown and find parking. I think that Jediphonix is on for next week, so it should be a pretty good show.

Denton is the place for experimental and even then its far and few inbetween. I know quite a few experimental or contemporary electronic musicians there that do shows. Ft Worth just seems to lack the "heads" that would support it. Unless its metal, dub or prog rock there arent a lot of heads in Ft Worth. | |

This is what is wrong with Ft. Worth: There is NO support. There have been tons and still are a few bad ass weekly's. Sadly, even the 817ers DONT SUPPORT it. Red Goose always has it going on in Downtown. More recently Vivid. You have Black Cats (them fools have been keeping it real out there for a loooong time) Let's see where else? Then Carl Cue is bringing back Monte Carlos, let see what else? Oh...The Pig, Not too mention all the weekly's that are no longer around (RIP - Sweet, Nice, Internal Grooves @ Rack Daddy's). Then there's The Saffire Lounge too...which i play out on most Friday nights. There are tons of people keeping it real in the 817. it's just a matter of people supporting us. Rather than bitch about it...come out and support. |
