A good reason not to mindlessly sign petitions, even if they sound good...

No matter how compassionate or inspiring it sounds, always read it and understand what the issue is before signing one...

A good and humorous example of the liberal left's compassion over reason attitudes came from an experiment done by Penn & Teller.

Penn and Teller did a great experiment. They went to a big Earth Day demonstration in Washington DC and interviewed people there. They also had a young lady go into the crowd with a petition, requesting people to sign it. This petition was to do away with "Dihydrogen Monoxide". The young lady was told that she couldn't tell a lie about it, but had to use environmental jargon when explaining the petition. So when asked about it she would say things like, "It's used in pesticides." "It's in all our streams, lakes, and reservoirs." "When you consume this it makes you urinate." "Too much of this can even make you vomit." Everyone she talked with signed the petition, even the people who had organized the demonstration in Washington DC!

When this young lady did tell them what "Dihydrogen Monoxide" was they were amazed or speechless. One guy got violent for being duped.

And just in case you are wondering: Dihydrogen Monoxide is Water: H20... A Classic example of people not thinking for themselves and blindly following their group around like sheep.

Another example:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4534017/

Web pranksters warn of dangers of 'dihydrogen monoxide'
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - City officials were so concerned about the potentially dangerous properties of dihydrogen monoxide that they considered banning foam cups after they learned the chemical was used in their production.

The moral of ths story is... PLEASE FOR GO SAKES: READ THE PETITION AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS BEING PETITIONED BEFORE SIGNING IT, NO MATTER HOW GOOD IT SOUNDS!!! DON'T MINDLESSLY SIGN CRAP BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE ARE DOING IT!

Even peititions I strongly feel I should, like the petition against the ecstacy awareness act, I made sure I read and understood the problems with the act and read the peitition before I signed a petition form against it.

...Cuase you never know... unless you know for yourself...

And if you don't believe how much hype the joke stirred up:

do a google search for :

dihydrogen monoxide

and see what you get...

It's amazing what the human imagination can come up with...

Sounds like another conspiracy theory in a sea of conspiracy theories ....

One of my favorite excepts:

The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

Also, never sign petitions online. It's a giant waste of your time.

Why you shouldn't sign online petitions, from Snopes.

That reminds me of all the conservatives who mindlessly support Bush without having any knowledge of his outlandish spending records. Stupidity runs thick on both sides of the fence.

I'll definitely agree on that... Or anybody that supports a person or cause, but do not understand or know, or think for themselves about the facts behind the person or cause...
