I feel compelled to speak out nearly 8 months before we go to the polls and vote for President. I am a quiet participant, I vote every election and I make what I hope are the right choices based in the information presented by the candidates. Except this year that is where the problem lies. Who do I believe? For the record I am an independent who is fiscally conservative but socially liberal on almost all views. I do not like large government and for the most part I want my government to leave me alone as do most law abiding Americans. This is my first problem; this current administration which was more appointed than elected has carved out a policy of the religious minority determining the majority view. They do it in the name of security, fairness and God, but in essence it is just a minority view being forced upon the majority. I am an unemployed IT professional one of millions who wants a job and I could careless if 2 lesbians or homosexuals want to get married. In my opinion let them, maybe they will do a better job since currently, 50% of heterosexual marriages end in divorce. I wonder aloud if that is what the conservative right is afraid of. Let the gays marry, maybe they will teach us something about commitment and loyalty because in today’s society couples only stay together until someone else better comes along. It scares me that some people in this administration including this President feel that since they believe they are one with God that gives them the right to enforce their views on the rest of us, like they know better than I do and that they are superior to us “non-believers” That was tried roughly 250 years ago when we settled this nation and we ended up in the Revolutionary War. It was tried again 123 years ago when the Whites felt they were superior to Blacks and we had the Civil War. Later, though not as extreme but just as evangelical, Prohibition which only help increase the likes of Bugsy Seagal and Al Capone and in turn help create a foothold for the invasion of the Mafia in this country which we are still fighting today as it has morphed into drug lords and street gangs and drive by shooting. There are many examples in our history of the minority trying to enforce their will on the majority and it has 100% of the time ended badly and this is exactly the course we are on. George Bushes policies are weighted to a minority of Americans on the backs of the majority of struggling Americans. It's bad enough that there will be no Social Security to speak of when I need it but now with the current Medicare law I will be forced into managed care or pay twice as much for medication because this bill prohibits the government from negotiating a better deal with the drug companies. Now how is that good for the majority? How does that benefit me? How can making rich men and corporation richer be better for me as an unemployed American who lacks health coverage today? This is not what American men and women throughout history died for in building this country. We are seriously slanted off course and I fear where it is leading and how long it will take to fix if change is not made now. A person running uncontested for President feeling the need to collect $170 million dollars has only one agenda and that is winning. Not by having the better argument, policy or idea but with a disgustingly distorted notion that he can “buy” the office and the sad reality is that it can be done. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the Presidency, meaning that this administration does not want or care about winning the popular vote; they only want to win the necessary combination of States to win 270 electoral votes. Currently it takes only 13 States: California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Florida, Illinois ,New Jersey, North Carolina, Washington, Tennessee, Missouri, and Iowa to win 270 electoral votes... Consider that for a moment, 13 States out of 50 deciding who runs the country for the Majority of Americans. This in and of itself is reason to abolish the Electoral College and change to a majority wins rule of election. This is exactly why the Minority will never allow that to happen because it is easier to manipulate a small group of people than a large mass. 13 States, kind of ironic since the original makeup of this country was 13 colonies. $170 million is the estimate to buy this election and the terrifying thing is it may work. (Sidebar, I recalculated and one can win 270 electoral votes with 12 States...Sick isn't it) Serious questions needs to be asked of this administration, either they are the biggest political liars in history with no shame or completely incompetent. If you believe their claims of ignorance, then being wrong on so many issues is incompetent and they should be replaced. If they only see what they want to see to further their own political agenda at the expense of the Majority then they need to be replaced because they are frauds. If they are not providing a complete and accurate assessment of both sides of a debate and allow us as Americans the right to decide which view we agree with then they should be jailed for gross malfeasance. They say this but the result is that as exampled by the Medicare reform bill which they said will cost $400 million over 10 years all through out the debate. Until 3 days after the law is sign it miraculously jumps to $540 million. The duel wars were only suppose to cost $16 billion until late last year they come back and ask for $87 billion saying that this time it is all they need, but it is common knowledge that this administration will ask for even more money for the duel wars after the election. When and where does it end? How much of our future do we have to mortgage so Halliburton can become the 2nd largest contractor to the United States? At what amount does it end? For an administration that feels they are doing Gods work, they have a credibility issue. I wonder what God thinks of his self described disciples? A person or group that calls themselves reformed, converted, born again or whatever they want only means that they describe themselves that way, not God, not me, not you, only themselves and like minded groups ergo the Christian minority. All of this is fine and thank God for the freedom this country provides to allow people to do such. The same freedoms that are threatened now by a group who only hears one voice, only hears one argument. That is not what America is about, not my America, these people that claim to be in the service of God have the right to say so because of the freedoms this country brings. Now they want to dictate what should be and should not be free based on their beliefs. I soundly and unequivocally reject this argument and direction this country is going. This country is a wonderful place, the best one in the world and I am an American through and through and I love my country so much so I feel compelled to speak out. I do not have the answers, I do not know who is speaking the truth and that is not what America is about. We need honest answers from the people who want to serve us, not half truths and deception. The end does not justify the means and we need people in office that do what’s right for this country not what is right for their party or business partners. It is not too late to change course, I mean a wholesale clean out of Congress from the top down starting with this President. I do not know who should replace them but that is the wonderful thing about American democracy, we will have a choice and it is up to us to make the right one. Now let's get to work America, we have got a country to save. |
