Fallujah

The cease fire doesn't seem to be working and it looks more and more that the idea of resolving this issue in a diplomatic matter might be thrown out the window.

Indeed. It's their damn country.

So do the guys in Fallujah think that they better fight quick or they'll lose their opportunity to fight Americans after June 30?

Anyway - give it back and get the hell out after June 30 - if they want to shoot at us in the meantime - shoot back.

Sure was - and what a wonderful place it was too Adam.

We did them a huge favor - now we can do a bigger one and hand their government back to them without a murderous capricious despot running the show.

You really cannot have it both ways Adam - either we did the right thing or we should have left Saddam in power.

The problem with Fallujah is that they were completely funded by Sadaam. Now that the money is gone, they are fighting back. It's the same damn people, the chicken doesn't just die when you cut its head off, it fucks shit up aimlessly before it finally gives way.

Absolutely, however as far as I can see, and iirc you've supported this policy, we won't be leaving after June 30th, nor will the Iraqi's have full control of their country. Now, if an elected government asks the US to stay and help them maintain order, it would get my full support - however that won't happen until November of NEXT year and, in the meantime, Iraq will be fucked and, along with it, any goodwill we might of gained in removing Saddam from power.

Iraq really is the epitomy of "Catch-22".

Sure - but we must do what we can to improve the situation. That may be very costly. It is part of the risk we took. I assume the gov't after &/30 is there to make a "real" one. But, it is a VERY substantive step in the right direction.
