Get rid of Jesus link on Junior High Web Site

Not sure if this is in the right place but I am seeking any resources or assistance in direction. My son's junior high has a link to the 23rd psalm on it. It is the only religious link on the site. I have written to the administrator several times to try and work something out to either get rid of it or provide a broader range of beliefs as an educational effort. No response, it's still there. I was under the impression that it shouldn't be there in the first place but in all honesty at this point I am ignorrant of the laws regarding this. I plan to pursue it as far as I can and any suggestions would be most helpful.

Absolutely ludicrous... this is one of those things that could gain national attention. You ought to bring it up to a national news organization. I would be out of my mind if this sort of religious propaganda was being displayed to my children.


We live in a day and age where everyone is supposed to be equal-minded, but something like that just goes to show that there are other forces at work trying to influence the young.

unless they are making anyone go visit that portion of the site, then I dont really think you have much of a case for anything.

As another asked - is it mandatory for the kids to visit the site?


Separation of church and state does not mean that every vestige of religion must be eliminated from public life - it means that the gov't should not work to "establish" a religion as the preferred religion.

I know that many schools (public), although wil recognise a separation between church and state, will use the bible as a reference. I would have no problem with this as long as its being used like anyone else would quote shakespeare or keats. Now if they made a blatently religious connection, then yeah, I would have issues.

If the school is private then there's nothing wrong with them displaying the Psalm, you can always pull your son from the school and place him in another private school or a public one. If the school is public then you would definitely have a case in asking them to remove it. Personally I'd try a visit to the principal first to speak with them face to face about it, that way they can't ignore you or duck the issue.

In response to a few questions:
The school is a public school.
The junior high site is required perusing for all virtual tech students. The link is located on that site. This dobhran is actually a privately owned organization with no affiliation to the school.
The context of the link simply says 23rd Psalm with a small blurb beneath that says (this is a link to dobhran).

No I am not trying to spam this forum. I left out the adress to the junior high website because I wanted to preserve the anonymity of my sons location. My reaction to the link was much the same, they can bite me.( I apologize if it offended you, it did me too) My son is fourteen and thus his religious views seem to change at least once a month. I support him in it and encourage him to research but I don't think he's getting a fair view through the schools website.

To update, I have sent a request for assistance off to the ACLU. All requests have to be submitted in writing so now I'm just sitting it out for a response from them before I make an appointment with administrators in person.

If the link is not required viewing and they even have the disclaimer of it being a totally different domain, I don't think you have much of a case. Just fly a plane into a building, that's what other bible-hating believers do. There are bigger things to get worked up about.

It doesn't matter if it's required viewing, it's still an endorsement of one particular religion over others by a public school.
