McCain, the Badass

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...stert_mccain_2

I think the Republicans destroyed their party in 2000 when they chose Dubya over John McCain. Now he seems to be the only one in that party who stands for anything.

My favorite quote:

Quote:
"The speaker is correct in that nothing we are called upon to do comes close to matching the heroism of our troops," he said. "All we're called upon to do is not spend our nation into bankruptcy while our soldiers risk their lives. I fondly remember a time when real Republicans stood for fiscal responsibility."
Tell 'em.

The arrogance of Hastert is unreal. He never served in the military because his fat ass was too out of shape, and he is lecturing McCain on the "sacrifices of war." McCain spent almost six years in a POW camp being subjected to continuous torture. Take McCain out of the equation and you have a microcosm of the current Republican party - big spending, out-of-touch, chickenhawks who lecture the world on "bravery" and "sacrifice" without having a clue what these words mean.

Since Dionysos (I think it was) mentioned him I've been doing some reading on him - he's very impressive.

Yea, I think I've become the resident McCain ball washer around here. He's easily my favorite politician, and I'd vote for him without hesitation.

I don't always agree with his politics, but I do like that he's fairly honest of a politician. Had he won the primaries in 2000, I think he would have won by a landslide. Hell, I probably would have thought about voting for him, even though I disagree with him a lot. The idea of having an honest president would be refreshing.

But that same honesty is exactly why the Republican Party will never let him win the nomination.

I don't agree with all of his politics either, but that's OK with me. He's a true moderate who is willing and capable of bringing the two sides together, and he won't whore himself out to the political parties when they tell him he is wrong. That's about the best scenario I could imagine for American leadership. If we had a president who agreed with all of my politics, half of America would hate him and we'd still never get a damn thing done.

I def wish he had the nomination over Bush in 2000.

It seemed to me that Bush had more money and more groups behind him.

If Dubya's last name wasn't "Bush", we would be throwing the 'Re-Elect McCain' stickers up all over town.
