In Abraham Lincoln's last election, he won with less than 40% of the vote. It bears mentioning that the South wasn't allowed to vote in that election either. Mind you I am not making any comparisons to Dubya in terms of their achievements, policies, etc., just wondering if 140 years from now anyone will remember what happened in the 2000 election.

Yes. I don't think the election itself is what people will remember, but the Supreme Court decision will be a lasting impact as legal precedent for any similar situation in the future.

Not sure. There seems to be growing discontent with the electoral college these days, and there has been for a while. The 2000 fiasco has served as a catalyst in spurring on the growth of this discontent. So I would like to say yes, but... I suppose it depends on the next few elections/presidencies and how Dubya actually gets written into history. Only time will tell, and we are no where near the time to make predictions of this sort IMO.
