![]() | Kia/Hyundai - Brilliant Business
To get it out of the way, we can all agree that Kia's and Hyundai's are not the most well produced vehicles on the road. That's what you get from a cheap car. Kia and Hyundai (the same company) have developed the most brilliant strategy to sell cars. Make their cars look like everybody else's but cheaper. At first I thought it was coincidence, but the more of these I see on the road, the more I realized this is the case. Can't afford a $30K SUV? Buy a $20K full size SUV from Hyundai. Can't afford a mustang? Buy a Tiberon. They've also developed a horde of sedans that look like other popular models from Toyota to BMW. Want to pimp out a BMW on Wal-Mart pay? Buy the Hyundai look alike. Obviously it's working, I see more of these on the road every day. Brilliant.

Yup, their top of the line sedan looks like a Jag X-series. A few compound curves here and there have been changed and what not but for the most part design cues from other auto makers are very noticeable. edit: However, the fact that they are affordable and offer a crazy ass warranty has allowed them the crazy market penetration they now enjoy.

I think he meant the Tiburon part as the alternative to a Mustang in a price and market audience wise, I may be wrong though. The tiburon was design with more Pininfarina homage mind set than a mustang one. I have seen Kia's have more of these "similar" design cues, than the Hyundais.

I dunno... I think a lot of companys feed off eachother's ideas... Some sell eachother plans... For example, the Ford Explorer and the Mecury Mountaineer... Exact same frame...

Um Ford owns Mercury, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mazda and I forget who else. They use similar platforms and variants to keep some costs down and upgrade features in their cars accordingly to which segment the particular brand caters to. Same with Nissan and Infinity Honda and Acura the list goes on.
