![]() | Michael Powell Interview http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=30408 I thought most of the things Michael Powell said made sense. Same is true for Colin Powell much of the time, too bad he doesn't have much influence over his Bushcist buddies. |

Fuck Michael Powell and the FCC for telling us what we can and can't watch based on their holier than thou morals. Do you honestly like the fact that Clear Channel owns almost every radio station you listen to in Dallas? Mr. Powell did that for you.

his father's not exactly a saint himself. Regardless, I do agree for the most part that "it's all about the content." As far as Clear Channel goes, I quit listening to the radio long before the whole debate started. I would assume that Clear Channel is responsible for how many stations it owns, not the FCC chair. I'm sure the media giant influences his decisions, but that's politics. And the majority in the country, myself included, feels there is too much indecency in broadcast media, so in that regard he is acting in the interest of his constituency.

The deregulation that permitted companies to own multiple media outlets in the same market actually happened under Clinton

Nope - and relax - geesh - My comment is true - yours seemed to blame Powell and by implication GW. However, that is not the case.

I just wondered why you made reference to Clinton, however you cleared that up. My beefs with GW are similar, but in this thread I am merely referring to Powell.

Basically all he's doing is avoiding answering any of the important issues. He dodges the deregulation issue by basically saying it's a nonissue, oligopoly of the media is just about "content", which is simply untrue. Additionally, he's completely ignoring the complaint about indecency the vast majority of people are upset about. Instead he simply takes the weakest, poorly argued positions on both topics and lines them up against each other to prove some nonexistent point.
