John Kerry is going to lose the election if he keeps aligning himself with the crazies (eg Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Moore & Hollywood, etc). How is he going to gain votes from the south and the mid-west if he keeps showing the traditionalists and the moderates that he is hanging out with these far leftists? Just last week he was in Minnesota and the mid-west telling us he cares about the 'traditional values'.

Do you think people will realize this?

This does bother me a bit, mainly because I think it's unprofessional and crude to be associated with people like Whoopi Goldberg when you're running for president. But let's face it, these people are good sources of fundraising (7.5 MILLION last night alone). For me, it's no more problematic than the Repubs who attend fundraisers with bigots like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. The Repubs need the lunatic right-wingers on their side and the Dems need to Hollywood elitest nutjobs. It's a dirty part of this two-party system.

I think the point is that the events at the fundraiser contradicted their own theme and they did nothing to reel it back in.

However, as a general proposition - I agree - that pitch doesn't matter to their base.
