| Deuces, nigs! | Secret weapon: Obama?
Wow. I saw the Democratic "rave" on KERA this evening and again the words are "wow" and "wow." Orator like what. Kennedy and his little tirade alongside of Dean's little skit (likened to his "YEAAAAAH" speech of earlier times) was worthwhile, but still not to the caliber of Obama's "Unity" speech. T Heinz Kerry aimed to impress with her address in other languages (which I was unaware of), but still didn't carry the feel that Obama left behind. It is her husband. Of course she is going to paint a pretty picture. (Ron Reagan, Jr asking for support on stem cells. Sad, but not without merit.) People were commenting about the first Black president. I don't think so, but a definite "Dark horse' candidate (like in his home state Illinois where he beat out Republicans and stole the vote overwhelmingly) in the future, yeah, I'd believe. Anyone else think the same about tonight's Dem "rave"?

I'd say that kid has a mighty bright future. Very impressive indeed. His rise to early power is an essential affirmation of the American dream. I bet he rides that wave all the way to the white house if he plays his cards right. He's like Edwards on steroids.

What a brilliant speech. I loved the quote: "There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America - there's the United States of America". He will have to change some of his policies though before he gets in the White House, Satchel. He's to the left of Mao Tse Tung.

I was very impressed with his skills at the podium. He speaks so well. Didn't get a clear picture of his position on any issue. However, it was a great "rah-rah" speech even if it lacked substance (which of course can alienate - and diminish the point of a "rah-rah" speech) | |

here is a link to some info on his platform http://www.obamaforillinois.com/inde...Type=NONE&SEC={8683FB66-C0DB-4FAB-85C7-2FBCF770436E} It does kind of read like leftist talking points, but I don't necessarily disagree with anything I read. I would have liked to see a little more free thought, but I suppose we owe the kid a little time to see what he would do. This is politics after all. I asked a friend of mine who is more familiar with him and he responded with this.. Yeah, but I dont think he is all the way to the far left. E.g., while he does ostensibly support some increased federal spending on health care, he doesnt come out for a single payer (i.e., socialized medicine) system. And while he favors closing some corporate tax loopholes, he doesnt advocate hiking income taxes (at least not explicitly). FWIW, I saw him at a few symposia in law school (he taught at the U of C when I was there) and thought he was pretty thoughtful -- definitely no hyper-lefty. |
