Alan Keyes vs Barak Obama in Illinois

This should be intresting.. I believe Keyes is in the final stages upon deciding whether or not he will run.

This will be damn interesting. A door will open or a window will close (depends on which party you root for here) during this showdown.

I'm not as familiar with barak - is he as much of an idealogue as Keyes?

If so - I want to see those debates - wow.

I respect Keyes, though I disagree with most of his philosophies. I do not think he will stand a chance against Barak in Illinois, however. That is a strong Democratic state and Obama has already won the support of many Republicans. I can't see a far-right candidate doing well there against anyone, especially a "rock star" candidate like Barak. But hey, at least it's not Ditka.

I think you're wrong Ryan, they just haven't had a good 'Republican' candidate. Every time they do seem to have one, the numbers seem to jump until something actually happens to the candidate. There are a huge number of republicans within that state, and the poll numbers in the past have proved so every time a good candidate seems to appear. Unfortunately, the candidates have had bad luck in regards to staying on the ticket.

Im looking forward to seeing what will happen.

I'd agree from what i saw of Barak that he's got an amazing presence. I'd agree that he's got the huge edge. But, again - where does he stand? And, regardless of his platform - those two would make a wonderful debate - and I think we'd see two people discussing issues and policy - not two politicians scoring points and sound bites - refreshing.

Oh, come off it. You know as well as I do that these "issues" of which you speak are not important. Mention "social security" at one of the political conventions and 10 million TV sets get turned off. Talk about "tax reform," "budget deficits," or "corporate welfare" and America falls asleep. These elections are about flags and babies, 30-year-old military service records, political grandstanding on social issues, the candidates' hairstyles, the hotness of their daughters, and OF COURSE, the celebrities who show up at the fund-raisers (have you heard about Ben Affleck and the Kerry girl?? OMFG!!!).

Seriously, though, I would like to see this debate. These two are both enormously intelligent and are both fundamentalists on opposite sides of the political spectrum. We would definitely see some interesting contrast. Still, I think Barak takes it easily since he's so handsome and the media just LOVES him.

Now I know that as of late I have been tauted as heightening the racial alertness of the DDM community, but I have to make the following statement:

Do you see Obama as a future "dark horse" candidate or what? Given the current situation, I'd say yes. Seems like the media agrees (which is always deceptive), but a possible bid for presidency during the upcoming decade?

I'm not so sure about that one. People would be a little afeared of someone stepping up from the public so swiftly and surely. he may be a torchbearer, but is he "THE ONE?"

I think not.

Good luck to him though. He is destined to move minds at the very least and sometimes that is better than winning an office alone.

I heard on Air America this morning that Keyes was bashing Hillary for carpetbagging when she ran. If this is true it would seriously hinder his campaign.

it is true and it certainly will (not sure if it was today - but Keyes is on record railing against running in a state not your own - specifically against Hillary)
