Who knows if they deserved them or not. Let's assume they did. What I'd like to know is why they are qualified to speak authoritatively on the issue of whom should be the President of the US?

It's also says something about the two candidates that Nobel Prize winners support one and Toby Keith, Alice Cooper, and a NASCAR driver support the other.

I'd add that these are the same guys that predicted tens of thousands of refuges fleeing Iraq among other things that never happened. (It may have been a different group of Nobel Laureates but you get my point - these guys are at their best in a classroom not the real world)

yeah well - we can agree that the post combat planning was poor at best. However, the refugees didn't materialize either - so - score = 0 to 0 on that one

I would really like to know their backgrounds as well. Every economist I've seen over the past few months has laid out Kerry's economic plan, and it supposedly doesn't sit well with them. They've all tried seperate layouts in order to achieve positive results, and the only solution would to be raise taxes. If that's a good economics, then go for it. But we will probably have a conservative congress, so that should hold him down. It's always good to have a counterbalance in washington. |

True. They've introduced a new method of war fighting. Screw the battlefield. Let the 800 lb gorilla knock out the guy you despise - then wait for the opportunity to assert yourself through whatever means necessary. Some - are bullying their way to the table by force and it just may work out for them. Or him, Al Sadr.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone try to trivialize Nobel Prize winners. I always thought that was the ultimate in credibility. Your analogy is on point. Quote:

The point was about name recognition. The credibility factor is open for any of them to establish - none of those at issue have it inherently from anyting they've done. Let me remind you that Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize.... http://www.nobel.se/peace/laureates/1994/ Last edited by xiannaix; 08-26-04 at 10:17 AM.

I was just kidding - sorta. People in academia have generally always tended toward liberalism and the Democratic party. That may be an asset or a liability, depending on your view of "intelligentsia." Unfortunately for the Dems, these academic intellectuals are far outnumbered by fans of country music, heavy metal, and NASCAR.

Now Ryan, everyone that likes car racing, and heavy metal is a redneck. Quote:
