![]() | 527 Connections http://www.blogsforbush.com/mt/image...raphicfull.jpg Links to the 527 groups. I am only hearing in the press that Bush has ties to the swift vets. Im not hearing that Kerry attended the propoganda machine known as moveon.org, that his employees now used to work for moveon.org. Im not hearing that a Kerry lawyer in the same position has ties to moveon.org. No one seems to care. This is amazing. Everyone knows that if there were military guards against Bush the media wouldn't give a shit about the connections to Kerry lawyers. It would be about Bush being unfit for the job. The media has totally twisted the argument. And there's no leftwing bias in the newsrooms? Let me know the next time you see an AP article that is positive about Bush. |

You are definitely right with this one. The DNC and the Kerry campaign specifically have ties to numerous 527's. There was a long discussion on CNN today about the issue, including the fact that lawyers who advised Kerry also advised MoveOn and other groups. The whole thing needs to stop. Incidentally, what press do you follow? I have heard extensive discussion about the ties on both sides on ABC and CNN in the last couple of days. In fact, Blitzer spent half of his show addressing the issue today and pounding the Democratic representative on the attornies who advised Kerry. I think the focus has been on Bush and the Swiftboat Vets simply because the ads are currently running and because they are so inflammatory. |

Repealing McCain Feingold won't get that Genie back in the bottle. Prior to that "reform" the ads were almost exclusively aired by the candidate or his party - which carried with it accountability. The 527s can be as biting, despicable and free and lose with the truth as they want with no fear of reprisal. Libel laws will not touch them (the burden a public figure needs to carry to show libel is pretty high - and a 527 can emerge and disappear quickly with no human accountability - and the time frame in which the issues rise and fall is very brief). I know I didn't even give an inkling as to solution - I haven't got any. Perhaps it is to loudly protest such stupid attempts to limit free speech next time congress decides we can't be trusted to ferret out the truth.

I don't see anything wrong with 527 groups, and feel they have the right to do attack ads. However, I think those ads should be exposed mercilessly by independent groups for any inaccuracies that create alot of unjust distress to any individuals or groups, and, if necessary, the people that are connected with such groups should be under the media spotlight. In the end, the voters can decide who is the least dirtiest.

I will tell you something. Wolfy is the ONLY person on CNN that I have respect for. This man has been stepping up to the plate IMO. I personally like the guy. | |
