someone requested more info on this topic. so our discussion point is this: does talking about your problems actually help you better plan your future? do you think repression is unhealthy? 1 : a method of analyzing psychic phenomena and treating mental and emotional disorders that is based on the concepts and theories of Sigmund Freud, that emphasizes the importance of free association and dream analysis, and that involves treatment sessions during which the patient is encouraged to talk freely about personal experiences and especially about early childhood and dreams 2 : a body of empirical findings and a set of theories on human motivation, behavior, and personality development that developed especially with the aid of psychoanalysis I also liked this definition: a. The method of psychological therapy originated by Sigmund Freud in which free association, dream interpretation, and analysis of resistance and transference are used to explore repressed or unconscious impulses, anxieties, and internal conflicts, in order to free psychic energy for mature love and work. [[they are using the term psychic energy in a scientific way referring to thought activity, not the more common occult version of psychic]]

that is basically the traditional method. u know the couch & the shrink taking notes. more than your examples tho. some of the most frequently used question in psychoanalysis are "why do u feel that way? what makes u feel that way" when do u feel that way?" so u get into the talk about what makes u think u are fat. when do u notice that feeling? do certain things trigger that esteem issue? what can u do to change the way u feel about yourself? what did your parents do to make u hate them? why does that come up in your adulthood? how does that hate relate to your relationships with other ppl? a lot of freud's ideas were discredited. dream interpretation is very theoretical. his addictions & perversions effected many of his ideas. but i think expressing your feelings is a healthy way to resolve the internal feelings u have so that u can move forward.

It's also important to note that it's not an exact science. I mean, for the most part, in practical application, "therapy" is merely an aid in dealing with emotions effectively, which is something we are naturally very bad at. An example for myself, letting go of some feelings of resentment towards my biological father. Not the end all be all of my psyche or anything, but emotions that were stuffed away when I was young that had to be dealt with....

u can question your motivations, talk to your friends, write out a journal, release all those frustrations in a healthy way. look at them for what they are > over. old frustrations get heavy. let em go & u move faster forward in life. so many ppl just act blindly in life, not putting things in context... not even questioning their own motives. very sad. they feel out of control. i really think understanding yourself leads to better self-control & greater potential for self-manifested destiny. u know by looking at yourself honesty: doh i fukt up (accept responsibility). why did i do that (question motivations)? how can i improve the outcome (foresight)? but that is really more about being a good person & not really whether u are sane or not. simply put... realizing that something u did was insane, typically means u cannot be crazy because u are cognizant of your actions and how they are perceived. thus still capable of altering those behaviors to conform to the standards of civility. when u don't realize those behaviors are crazy... that's when u are certifiable. when u do something wacky ape-shite and think its totally normal, that's when u are really nutzo. at least in my non-professional opinon lol

Psyschology has some very good points to make about the way the human mind functions. However, it's application is very detrimental to the idea of independence and society in general. It's application is primarily to order society in terms of the mental functions of different individuals (normal, crazy, ADHD, MPD, etc.) and delineate between "good" and "bad" states of mind. Thus it encourages a subjectification of individuals and a marginalization of thoughts deemed "wrong" by the psychological institutions. To that end its purpose is to normalize individuals into the "right" frame of mind.

the biggest problem i have with psychology's effect on the evolution of society is this: psychology doesn't teach right & wrong it analyzes motivations for some ppl it justifies their behaviors so they feel no involvement i think this a big part of our nation's problem with psychotropic drugs (antidepressants et.al.) and children that refuse to take responsibility for their actions instead of using their analysis to adjust motivations & correct behavior they go "wasn't my fault" and keep acting up.
