what a weird stat this is....

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Violent crime in the United States dropped 3 percent last year, continuing the downward trend in the nation's crime rate over the past decade, the FBI announced Monday.

The drop came despite a 1.7 percent increase in reported murders between 2002 and 2003, according to the FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report. All other categories of violent crime -- manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault -- declined.

Sixty-two percent of last year's murders have been solved to date, compared with 46 percent of all violent crimes, the report said.

Total property crime, which includes nonviolent criminal incidents such as auto theft, burglary and larceny decreased slightly, down 0.2 percen

i can't believe only 62% of murders were solved. That means you have a 38% chance of getting away with it.

How do you propose they calculate crime that wasn't reported?

Surely the overwhelming majority of unreported murders are missing persons cases (the remeinder are murders that were not detected)

The fewer connections between slayer and slain the fewer reasons an investigation could ever focus on the killer. Kill a family member, friend or business partner... you're gonna get caught... maybe not convicted... but - follow the money or lust and you'll find the bad guy.

As the connection between the dead guy and the killer is stretched - the less likely the killing will occur as well.

Exceptions.... the nut case and the contract killer

not sure how you are disagreeing with what I said or how I'd be fighting you - however - I'm curious what motivated the comment....

anyway - serial killers will fall under the "nut case" exception I pointed out.

and for clarification of the original comment - unless one is a nut case or contract killer - a person has very little reason to go murder some one with whom that person has no contact.... another way, sane people who aren't paid to kill strangers... tend not to kill strangers.

so now - wanna fight
