busting the liberal spending myth

I'd post the article, but there are some graphs that you should look at when reading it.

It's a possibility, though I would consider it a relatively non-partisan group much the same way STRATFOR has its leanings but isn't an arm of any one party.

Cool enough, I like to have some general feelings for "tone" when reading articles like this.

Interesting stuff - I'll admit I looked at the graphs only.

Did it account for the left/right differing focus on defense vs domestic spending?

I think its a bunch of BS, and always has been, that the right doesn't like to spend. The debate is over what the dollars are spent on. We're seeing it now (again) - look at Reagan's spending. Defense costs lots of money.

good read....i think one assumption that is not analyzed correctly is republicans "want to cut government spending.....xiannaix is correct it is bs that repbulicans dont spend. its how they finance the spending......you can do one of three things defecit spend, reduce other government agencies, or tax. both parties spend and both defecit spend....the difference come that democrats tend to lean towards taxing and republicans tend to cut social programs. i would like to see a comparison of these numbers with reduction in social programs per party per year and increases in taxes per party per year. that would give not only an explination of which party spends but where they anticipate paying for the spending.....which is actually what we should care about.

I don't recall offhand, but I don't believe so. The focus of the study was to see what federal spending did when Republicans/Dems controlled both the WH and Congress, then what happened when each owned one or the other.

I think it points out that per-Nixon, there was a lot of truth to the idea that Dems were big spenders and that GOP generally was fiscally conservative. It makes the point that all of that disappeared starting in 1970, and that Republicans generally outspend Dems when they control both halves of the equation.

I don't, but my father does and forwards some of their stuff onto me. Usually that's when you see me post it up here.

ever notice the concept of Liberals as "tax and spend", yet if you were gonna spend, wouldn't it make sense to tax, and then spend. Instead of cut taxes(federal monies) and then spend. I know the concept of trickle down economics, but really, lets get real. And when you say the U.S. is not a socialist state, it is. I mean, may be not in name, but we have plenty of social programs, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Right. The Republican spending philosophy differs in two ways. First off, they somehow believe that they can actually bring in less revenue and still spend more. Second, they have always felt that tax money is better spent on building missles that they have no intention of using instead of those goddamn pinko-commie liberal causes like "education," "healthcare," and "the environment."
