| The Bo Bo's
was having a meal with my units Chaplain the other day, and as we discussed politics and religion he threw out a term I didnt understand. He said, "Oh you mean Bo Bo's." Say, fuckin what? He went on to explain that a BoBo is a "Bourgeoisie Bohemian". AH HA!!! The enemy has a name. Now, everyone knows that Im a liberal....hell, Im practically a Socialist. But there are people I do hate more than Christian Coalition, Right to Lifers, and Republicans....and they are the BoBo's. Those coffee shop, black turtleneck wearing, weathy tree huggers. Those people that ponitificate on helping the poor, the downtrodden, and disenfrancised, and love the fact they can write off thier membership in the Sierra CLub as a charity. These are the people that talk all about the homeless, but wouldn't go near the ghetto. They live in thier SoHo and East Village apartments with security cameras and door guards. They defame the rich while eating imported cheeses. They spend tons of money on thier hemp and environmentally safe clothing. They shove thier vegan lifestyle down your throat. They scream about the WTO while stopping to check thier stock porfolios. They strap thier mountain bikes to thier Volvos so they can go to thier mountain cabin co-op on private land to commune with nature. They spend hundreds of dollars on thier holistic medicine. Thier retreats to go hear some yogi muse cost several thousand dollars. I think i hate these people more than anything. Self-righteous fucks. Hypocritical down to thier fat wallet. |

believe me there aren't too many of those out there, most rich people are rich, and don't give a fuck about the poor. This is just more right wing propaganda, that attacks any liberal attitudes that are displayed by anyone. These types may exist in small pockets in northeast urban neighboorhoods, or northern California hippy enclaves, but they sure as hell aren't here in Dallas Tx. Our rich wallow in stupidity and ignorance here, so I wouldn't get too upset.

I live in a city of a million "Bo Bo's" and I have to say they're not all that bad when compared to the right-wing alternative. You never get run off the road by drunk, overgrown frat boys in enormous SUV's, they make the restaurants healthier, and personally I would prefer having social justice and organic farming shoved down my throat than war and consumerism. In fact, I see nothing wrong with having money and being progressively-minded. The ones who I would like to punch in the face are the young, willfully poor Bohemian "intellectuals" who display a distinct air of superiority as they poor your coffee, mock your video/book selections, and tout a million lame bands that noone has ever heard of.

I find that brand of self-absorbtion far less irritating than a lot of todays young conservatives who spout that "lazy welfare mother, pull youself up by your bootstraps, personal responsibility blah balah blah.......... while mommy and daddy pay their tuition, buy them a BMW and finance their clubbing and wardrobe.

I think he meant the manner of which our regional rich seem to conduct themselves, not rich people as a whole. Some of our super rich in the Dallas do some noteworthy work for our community, but let's face it. A smart, super rich person would put "Leave Dallas" on their Top 5 "To Do with My Money" lists. That leaves some pretty small minded rich behind. There are, of course, exceptions.

our rich are more likely to drive suvs and contribute to the Republican campaign, and theres nothing wrong with that. Its obvious that dallas has next to zero arts programs, and or cultural centers. Dallas is a top 10 metro area, but it is as far behind as any midwestern town. Quote:

* gets a shovel to clean up all the ignorant stereotype labels dropped in this thread * while I'm sure you guys are all defining a majority of types and may have had one or two bad encounters that sets your mood, but it makes me wonder how many people are innocently profiled and lumped into one of these categories. This guy has a lot of cash, so yea... he's one of these categories, etc... The next guy that pours my coffee, may have the look... but may actually be a nice person and maybe, because the last guy was an asshole, I might think the same of this guy? I wonder what the world would be like, if just for one day, people went about their business and interacted with others without any preconceived notions from stereotyping.
