Since Freemasonry has already been mentioned once on here today

...I though I'd chime in with this bit of text taken from some reading I've been doing on the subject this afternoon, to which the reply count of this thread will be the ineluctable 0:

According to Sir Richard Burton, "Sufi-ism [was] the Eastern parent of Freemasonry." (See, F. Hitchman, Burton, Volume 1, p. 286) The possibility that Burton was correct is examined in detail by Idries Shah in his book entitled The Sufis, beginning on page 205.

I found this of relevant interest considering my recent curiosities toward Sufi, and having seen the trailer for War of the Worlds just the other night, which I feel should be narrated by some voice akin to the late Sir Richard Burton, given his work on the titular disco opera from the 70's.

But the Burton who wrote of Sufism was not the same as the actor.... or were you being funny?
