![]() | San Francisco bans smoking in parks... link to story Sometimes I think this citys motto should be changed to "Dedicated to Making Liberals Look like Wackos" If the problem is the cigarette butts, why don't they just enforce the littering laws? As a liberal, I find this kind of government intrusiveness the antithesis of the tolerence I thought liberals should stand for.

im conservative non smoker and find this type of legislation intrusive as well. what i find even more intrusive is dallas' and other major ciities having the same laws in place for private places of business. not that it is right, but i would think san fran has more of a leg to stand on due to the fact that the properties are owned by the city. i think its like many of the nuisence laws, most people they never truly effect either socially or monetarily, but it puts a craw in my throat when a select group of ivory tower pundits, whether conservative or liberal try to ram that bs down my throat. its the same for smoking, helmet laws, seat belts....etc..... im not saying down wear your seatbelt, its a smart thing to do, but come on quit wasting time legislating it. Personally I HATE cigarette smoke so I'm a little torn on most smokng bans. I'm very strong on personal freedoms, but I also think those freedoms shouldn't infringe on others. It's easy to say well don't go where there is smoking allowed, but why should I be the one to pay for others bad habits? I think where I stand on this now is that in closed spaces, there should be adequte ventilation at the least. Zubar I think is a good example of this. Outdoors I don't see where the problem is |
