Bottom Line:

I disagree with you on such a fundamental level that I really can't respect you as a person. You are in the same boat as Bush, and I wish that boat would hit an iceberg just like the Titanic.
well there it is...

I appreciate the understanding... may we now not bother reading or responding to one another...

go to your profile page and put me on your ignore list please - I'll do the same from my end - thanks

I have put him on my ignore list and will try not to read anything people quote from him. My birthday is 9/11 and was living in NYC at the time. I know several people who either died or had family members die. I take this VERY serious. I was able to see the tower fall from the hill we lived on and went to ground zero the following Tuesday. Hope this provides some reason for my thoughts.

Ah, there's no reason to demonize everyone (excpet for maybe bfp). It gets us nowhere.

Those were regarding DRUG POLICIES. While I agree that it was unethical and most likely counterproductive to use tax dollars for that cause, promoting a message like "don't do drugs," "smoking is bad for you," or "don't drink and drive" is completely different than creating contracts with the media to promote a specific political agenda. This is not defensible, but it goes a long way in proving the point I have been making about you people forever - that "personal responsibility" is just another right-wing catchphrase with no substance.

The point is Ryan, that this has been going on for a very long time. Every president's administration has done this type of shit. They just use different types of avenues in order to push a certain message. Why do you think there are certain 'departments' that are connected to the government? This is nothing new, and for you to act suprised either proves that you are completely unaware of the reach that the government has in getting their message out, or just plain stupid.

You can pile on as much as you want - I can handle it.

The whole thing is ridiculous and I won't defend what Clinton or any other president did. But we are just going to have to agree to disagree that there is a big difference in the two scenarios. The comparable action would have been if Clinton had paid the NY Times or Al Franken to promote his healthcare reform agenda without public knowledge of the transaction. Governments at every level have always paid money to promote concepts of general social welfare, like the whole "say no to drugs" campaign. Is it stupid and wasteful? I think so, but it doesn't have the same stench of corruption as this does.
