I'm sure this has been asked before...but

Would a truly combined European Union have enough sway and power to one day topple the US in term of power, both economically and military?

GO...

First of all we are rthe richest country in the world, and also the quickest to react.... so if a truly unified Europe threatened us in anyway I think we would move too quick for them to come out on top of any dispute.

As for economically, I think we would move into dispute territory and cause them to crumble before they gained too much power.

But then again I am half drunk so what do I know?

P.S> Thye boss knows,.

nah nah nah boo boo

absolutely not

1) their combined economies are not as large as ours

2) military? I don't know where to begin expressing my amusement that the EU could develope a competant military (excepting the brits of course)

Germany just streched it self too thin.

I agree. I've been hearing that whenever each country that is involved in the EU starts valuing their own economies, the euro will start to plummet because their economies really aren't all that great.

I agree here as well. Why would the countries that are involved in the EU want a huge military, if they're incapable of wanting to use it?

It would take a very very long time for the EU to catch up. In conjunction with their economic rise, our economy would then have to decline drastically.

and since we've outgrown them in popultion, technology, output etc etc... Germany is an economic powerhouse on par with California.

I disagree.... the EU is set up to avoid that kind of thing... the fascism you're talking about requires strong nationalism.... the are no people who speak EU

I pretty much agreed with the CIA analyisis of the EU last week. If their economic policies don't change, they're headed for a disaster.

There is no country in the world who can go toe to toe with the US defense. Although, unfortunately as history has shown, it's not always the best 'slugger' who comes out on top.

Economically I'm not sure, the U.S. seems to have a lot of resources.
