![]() | Al Sharpton wants to do what??? http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/rad..._id=1000837935 It's funny how he doesn't mention the tsunami song either. Yeah ban the artist for 90 days for their lyrics and not the assholes at the radio station for being racist.

Al Sharpton is a tool and a racist (ask the Korean grocers). However, he's advocating a kind of civic response to something he sees threatening his community. I'm not sure I agree with him or not but I don't doubt he believes (rightly or wrongly) he has the best interests of the people he thinks he represents (rightly or wrongly) at heart.

Take this scenario: You have a local guard dog that you can trust to defend you, but you aren't sure how it will go about doing it. Do you still pick it to do the task or do you go outside of the community looking for defense (knowing that the original dog is still wandering you streets and can turn on you)? The loyalty has been proven, it is the methods (and choice of words mainly) that cause Al Sharpton so much grief. When it comes to being black and being an orator of some standing, my vote still goes out to Barack Obama. I respect some of the things that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have done, but a lot of their speeches are more grandstanding built off of Biblical reference or Suessian rhyming schemes.

Jackson preaches the politics of victimization - not of self-empowerment. But I sure love to hear him talk.
