A few of the many things I don't understand about conservatives

1) Why are the people who always say we should "never play God" also so ardent in their efforts to keep any person in any state alive on any machine that can be created for the purpose of artificially sustaining basic bodily functions?

2) Why are the people who say we should "always choose life" also the ones who always choose war?

3) Why are the people who cry and scream about states rights and separation of power so supportive of Congress and the president taking it upon themselves to try and overrule a court decision?

1) I think there's an oversimplification there. I think the position is that when a person is being kept alive through artificial means that absent a clear indication that one wouldn't want to be alive we should err on prolonging life. You're suggesting that some one other than the principal should be given the right to make a life or death decision for that prinicpal based on subjective criteria.. quality of life. The point is that the principal gets to make that choice - not some one else.

2) again - a bit overbroad Ryan... "always" is a pretty expansive term. Clinton used our military to kill people... perhaps not "war" but try to convince the dead guys that it wasn't war. War is to complicated to not look at specific causes etc of each.

3) again - overly simlpified - but certainly correct in this case and I've pointed out the same issue. I think there is a necessary showdown with the courts and I think conservatives may have been trying to force it here - not sure - but it kinda smells liek it. In any event, this is a horseshit test case to use for it... however, it may provide them with a platform of notoriety and publicity.... you know "we need to do something about these renegade courts" kinda thing.

anyway - there you have a conservatives reaction

Wow Xian, you should run for some kind of politician in some kind of state office! Because the shit that comes out of your mouth sounds just like every other BS right wing politcian. Ok I'll give you a break because I know you live in Texas, and this way of thinking is pretty common around those parts. I am just blown away by how your mind is wired, its rather fascinating.

Once again you swoop in with lots to add to the discussion...... like I said before, please try to limit yuor comments to the substance of the discussion... its abundantly clear what your opinion of me is.

What did I say that you find odd and why?

Do you really need clarification as to why prolifers are also often pro death penalty and feel no contradiction? Or, were you teasing?

I'm interested. I'm sure I could think of a few reasons, but I think they'd be flimsy at best. Honestly curious

Matt isn't good at using smilies. It is jest.

If it isn't, just like the Terminator, he'll be back.

I seldom, if ever agree with the conservatives. However, I probably would agree with them a lot more often if they actually practiced what they preached. In fact if I was a conservative I'd be more disgusted with GWB than I already am, due to a feeling of betrayal. I'm all for smaller government, yet Bush has grown govt. more than any modern president (and there are plenty of facts to bear this out, its not just my opinion). Same with states rights, which apparently this administration is for only when the states act in a way he approves of. And don't even get me started on deficits.

Is FDR modern?

He revolutionized the office and created the bureaucratic state laden with executive agencies we have today...
